AOLiveMC1: JimJMF (AOLiveMC1) and AmyJSB (AOLiveMC10) are your gracious hosts, welcoming y'all to AOL LIVE! OnlineHost: Caroline Rhea is the lovable 'Aunt Hilda' on ABC's "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch." She also starred in the television series "Pride & Joy" as well as her own VH1 series, "Fool For Love" and she recently guest-starred as Drew's girlfriend on "The Drew Carey Show." Welcome to AOL Live! AOLiveMC1: Caroline Rhea, glad to have you aboard with us as our guest of the hour. Welcome to AOL! CRheaLive: I'm nervous and I just want you to remember that the computer screen adds 10 lbs. AOLiveMC1: Justin14m starts off our evening with this very first question. Question: Justin14m: Is the cat on the show real, or mechanical? CRheaLive: First of all I just want to point something out: the cat talks and that's your first hint. The cat is actually played by an alcoholic rabbit who wears a hairpiece. AOLiveMC1: Justin14m follows up with a question about the show's wardrobe. Question: justin14m: Caroline, I noticed that this year your wardrobe is a little more..I guess tight. Are they trying to change your image? CRheaLive: I have a very rare eating disorder. I have the opposite of anorexia. I think I'm thin and I think that all my outfits are very loose. Thanks for noticing! ;> AOLiveMC1: Fattire 3 has a question about Caroline's comedic work. Question: what is you favorite club or place you like to do your work at? CRheaLive: I have three. Caroline's in New York City, Cobbs in San Francisco and The Comedy Underground in Seattle. For anyone who will listen to me anywhere! AOLiveMC1: Okemo5165 wants to know how it all started for Caroline. Question: How did you start your acting career? CRheaLive: Well, I wanted to be a standup comedian since I was 8 years old. Then it was just a total process of elimination in that it was the only thing I could do. The first role I had was the cowardly lion when I was 11. It was a very young take on the role. AOLiveMC1: Bri3117 wants to know the location shoot of "Sabrina": Question: where do you film sabrina? CRheaLive: Los Angeles. AOLiveMC1: Okemo5165 wants to know how much of Caroline's role is a challenge to her. Question: Is it difficult to play your role on Sabrina the Teenage Witch? Is it enjoyable? CRheaLive: It's not difficult. It's basically like playing myself with better hair, makeup and magical powers. And yes, it's very fun. AOLiveMC1: Tasha08 wants to know why Caroline became a comedian. Question: how long have you been a comedian? And what made you want to become one? CRheaLive: I started in 1989 and it's the only thing I've ever really wanted to do. AOLiveMC1: LMOsplash wants to know about one of Caroline's co-workers. Question: Is Melissa Joan Hart fun to work with? CRheaLive: Yes, I think of her as being a little sister. AOLiveMC1: Ensn Payn is curious to find out about the effects of the show on Caroline. Question: Do you feel closer to Adolesents because you're in a show for teenagers? CRheaLive: I feel closer to adolescents because I'm incredibly immature. And as opposed to Middle age? AOLiveMC1: LMOsplash is curious to find out about the special effects. Question: Is it cool to be able to do "magic?" CRheaLive: Yes, it's very cool but I'm having trouble doing it during my off-weeks. AOLiveMC1: Okemo5165 wonders if Caroline can part with some of her sage advice. Question: What would you tell someone who wanted to have an occupation in acting. CRheaLive: If it's the only thing in your life that you've wanted to do, then absolutely pursue it. Take some acting classes and start buying lottery tickets. AOLiveMC1: SLamb6338 poses this question. Question: Is this show the reason so many teen age girls are profesing to be witches but wear dark eye makeup with glitter under their eyes and black lipstick? CRheaLive: I'm personally not aware of that phenomenon. But I've never seen a witch with bad eye makeup and I know a lot of them. AOLiveMC1: RMXO wants to find out who motivated Caroline in her comedic line of work. Question: Would you mention a few comedic influences? CRheaLive: My mother is the funniest person I know and 90% of my act is literally quoting her. But I love Bea Arthur, Carol Burnett...those are my favorite. AOLiveMC1: Dlexam217 asks Caroline to reflect a bit. Question: Is your career everything you thought it would be? CRheaLive: I know your parents, Dlexam216 and 214! Yeah, I'm really happy where my career is but there are goals that I would still like to attain in standup and acting, like having my own show one day. AOLiveMC1: AprilElly wants to know about Caroline's appearance on another funny TV series. Question: Do you think you will ever play Bonnie on the Drew Carey show again? CRheaLive: I hope so. That was an excellent week for me. I was smooching with Drew Carey and Eric Robert and in the mean time I was a witch. I hope so! AOLiveMC1: RMXO has a question that would make any human ponder. Question: What will comedy be like 100 years from now? Love your work! CRheaLive: R2D2! I guess that there will be a lot of jokes about our woman president and thank you! AOLiveMC1: Woodzy2 wants to know if Caroline has any projects coming up. Question: So are you going to be in any movies or TV movies this coming year or the rest of this year if so what are they? CRheaLive: I better or I'm firing my agent!! ;> AOLiveMC1: THREE3 DS wants to know about any memorable gigs. Question: What gig have you had the most fun doing? CRheaLive: The most fun I had was during Pride and Joy on NBC with Julie Warner and doing a Comic Relief show with Lily Tomlin standing next to me backstage. AOLiveMC1: Geanni123 would like to know how popularity sits with Caroline. Question: Miss Caroline, how is it like being famous? CRheaLive: It's only really a problem at Disneyworld. I signed a million autographs there and I was getting a big head about it. Then I looked through the autograph book and they were all signed "Tigger", "Snow White", "Winnie the Pooh." Being the only human put everything in perspective. AOLiveMC1: Linearart wants to know the difference between these techniques. Question: Is there a difference, for you, between ad-lib and improv? CRheaLive: No, the both of them make up 60% of every show that I do. AOLiveMC1: SmeliMoNk wants to know. Question: Who's voice is the cat? CRheaLive: First of all, I just have a comment ... Smelimonk? Is that an old family name? The voice is played by Nick Bakay, who is incredibly fabulous. Ironically, he has a tail. AOLiveMC1: TRuss0329 has another question about Caroline's wardrobe. Question: Do you get to keep or pick out your wordrobe? CRheaLive: Sometimes I get to pick it and I could buy anything that I wear. But then again, so can anybody. AOLiveMC1: LordWest1 is curious to find out about this. Question: Did they really cut Melissa's hair in the episode where Sabrina gets her license? CRheaLive: No, they didn't. But I do have a bridge that I'm interested in selling you! AOLiveMC1: VTannage has a personal message for Caroline. Question: I just wanted to say hi and congrats to caroline, we worked at the Centaur Theatre together in Montreal and she deserves her success, very funny girl (she always had everyone in the office on the floor). CRheaLive: Hi, Valerie! You're very funny too! AOLiveMC1: CTank935 wants to know if Caroline still does comedy work. Question: Do you still do stan-up? CRheaLive: All the time. I do at least 15 weeks on the road a year still and I perform in New York once a month for a week. We don't film in front of a live audience, so I need to get my fill. ;> AOLiveMC1: Yan3849 wants to know about a book that has yet to be written: Question: Hi...tell us about that autobiography yet to be written. And why that title? CRheaLive: Yan -- LOL. My autobiography is called "I Ate All My Prop Food" and I think it's self-explanatory. AOLiveMC1: Rustygi97 wants to know about this. Question: Is it true that they are making a movie?? Cuz one of my friends sisters was supposed to play sabrinas best friend. CRheaLive: The movie has already been made. The movie was made 2 years ago with a different cast. AOLiveMC1: AlinChanz wants to know if Caroline went through any culture shock. Question: So, how did you feel moving to New York from Montreal? Did you think they were completely different? CRheaLive: Everyone in Canada is incredibly reserved and polite and in NY if you look at anyone long enough, they'll eventually spit. So, it was a bit of a change. People would scream if I accidentally gave them Canadian change, as if I put acid in their hand. AOLiveMC1: Meniscuss poses this question. Question: Do you hang out with your fellow cast members alot? CRheaLive: We all have other careers beyond that, so not that much. No. AOLiveMC1: Ditto98 wants Caroline to confirm this audience member's memory. Question: Didn't you do a comedy special with wendy liebman for HBO? CRheaLive: Yes, I did. Women of the Night with Tracey Ullman and I think Wendy Liebman is the most hilarious woman and I got to work with her a lot. She makes me laugh out loud. AOLiveMC1: MovELuvr has an Internet question for Caroline. Question: I came in late (sorry) but in case anyone hasn't asked yet, do you have the internet? Or a webpage? Or know of a fanbased webpage for you? BTW, HI and I think your a great actress. ;) CRheaLive: Thank you! I'm getting a web page but I'm new to computers and I'm just trying to get my email to work first. I sent many message out to the abyss. AOLiveMC1: Buzz999 wants to know more about Caroline's show. Question: Is this show taped in front of a "live" audience? CRheaLive: No, it's not. It's taped in front of very kind cameramen who have all taken vows of silence. Sometimes, it's like doing a documentary on witches. AOLiveMC1: LMOsplash is curious to find out. Question: How old are you in real life? You look so young. I would guess you were what? 25? CRheaLive: I just want to say I find you very attractive. Let's just say that I've been 25. AOLiveMC1: Runner7 wants to know about the success of the show. Question: Are you surprised by the overwhelming success of the show after only one year? CRheaLive: I am young, btw ;> I'm in my baby 30's. CRheaLive: Runner - No because I went to a psychic last September and they said the show that you start right now will last for 7 years. And I have a deep belief in all mystical things. But I am grateful. AOLiveMC1: ItsLMNter has a question about Canada. Question: I am Canadian too and live in the US. My question is what do you miss most from Canada that is the first thing want when you go back? CRheaLive: See my mother and I love bagels from Montreal. They're real bagels. And I like the seasons because you earn them in Canada. AOLiveMC1: Shirley23 wants to know about this. Question: If you weren't a comedian or actress, what would you be doing? CRheaLive: I think I'd be a stockbroker. I love playing the market. AOLiveMC1: LMOsplash wants to know. Question: When do you tape the show to be aired on Friday night? CRheaLive: 3 weeks before. AOLiveMC1: Spudman20 wants to know. Question: How much fun do you have shooting the show? CRheaLive: It's incredibly fun. It's like being in camp, except it's long and can be really exhausting. But it's really fun. It takes at least 36 hours to shoot the show. AOLiveMC1: Brandy8 wants to know. Question: Do you believe there is such a thing as a "real" witch? CRheaLive: Not in the stereotypical sense that there are bad witches. I think there are people who have strong intuition and that can be perceived as sort of a magical power. AOLiveMC1: Moreta5 wants to know how TV compares to stand-up. Question: Whats it like to be on tv? CRheaLive: Because the show isn't shot before a live audience, you forget that people actually see it because we're filming during the time it's aired. When people recognize me and say "where do I know you?" I think, "high school?" It makes you think you can go up to people on TV. I once attacked Helen Hunt in the bathroom. It was like, "HI! I'm on TV and you're on TV." But she was very nice. AOLiveMC1: Speaking of which, do you get more nervous on TV than in stand-up, or vice versa? CRheaLive: I don't get nervous in either one anymore. I get nervous getting ready for a date. AOLiveMC1: Gpers417 has a question about the unique special effects. Question: How do they do most of those special effects? CRheaLive: They usually do the magic trick without any magic and then they usually put in a small explosive device which is set off and makes me blink and stick my tongue out. Then a lot of them are done in post. AOLiveMC1: Melly1111 wants to know about the driving idea behind Caroline's show. Question: Did they get the idea of Sabrina from the old Bewitched show? CRheaLive: No, it comes from the Archie comics in which my character is 12 feet tall and green and looks like Jughead. AOLiveMC1: SilkySun wants to know. Question: When they show the outside of the house, is that real or what? CRheaLive: There have been no marriage proposals, can I just say that?? That is actually the Playboy Mansion. No, I'm kidding! It's the White House! No, it's a house in Salem, MA. AOLiveMC1: JALSFO has a funny question. Question: Is it tough, at the age of (33?) to play a centuries old woman? And will the alcoholic rabbit be taking questions? CRheaLive: Thanks for outing my age ;> No, the good thing about playing someone who is 612 is that you always look good for your age. And even though I'm 612, I have a body of a 300 year old! AOLiveMC1: GregBoy1 is curious to find out about this. Question: Speaking of a date, what do you look for in a man? CRheaLive: An income. AOLiveMC1: Looperzga wants to know about this. Question: Hi, I love Sabrina, I was wondering everyone I know thinks I'm funny and I should become a comedian, I think I see potential but my jokes are never funny when I try to tell them? Any advice, suggestions?? CRheaLive: If you call a local comedy club, they usually have a stand-up comedy class, which is what I did. It's so personal. If you think it's the one thing you want to do, then do it. It's terrible not to do it if that's what you want to do. AOLiveMC1: SilkySun wants Caroline to make a wish. Question: What magical thing would you most want in real life? CRheaLive: I would be married to Billy Baldwin. AOLiveMC1: FloydF1 has a question about Caroline's role. Question: How do you the role in "Sabrina"? Did you love the script when you first read it? CRheaLive: I knew the writer, Noel Scovall and I knew that she was brilliant. She lured me into taking the role by promising me that as Hilda, I could imprison any man in my ring who didn't love me and I could fly a vaccuum cleaner and I knew how funny she was. So I thought, "I'm gonna do this." AOLiveMC1: DDSpooky wants to know more about Caroline's schedule. Question: What is the schedule for the show like? Are you always constantly busy? CRheaLive: We rehearse Monday and Tuesday and then we film Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, usually with a 5:30 am call time. AOLiveMC1: NISEY313 is seeking this from Caroline. Question: My daughter loves your show is there anyway to get a autographed picture of you and the rest of the cast? CRheaLive: Yeah, you just have to write to Sabrina, c/o ABC. You can go to keyword ABC on AOL to get the address. Either that or ask my father. He hands them out to strangers. AOLiveMC1: Mageresig wants to know if Caroline is a prankster. Question: Have you ever pulled any pranks on the set of Sabrina? CRheaLive: Whenever fans come up and say "hi" to me, I am inevitably eating something. I eat a corndog or a giant radioactive sized Kit Kat bar. And my mother always says, "Yes, it's her." Then she says to me, "Would you stop stuffing your face for five seconds?" CRheaLive: Mageresig - I haven't personally. But one time last year, I walked in and everyone on the set had a fuzzy cotton tail glued to their butts and didn't know that they had them It was very funny. AOLiveMC1: RobSs5 wants to know about this. Question: Have there been any embarassing moments in the show involving you? CRheaLive: I could make a second living from bloopers and practical jokes. Last year, I had to ride a Shetland pony in one of the episodes. The animal trainer asked me if I wanted to make time for lessons, and I had gone to riding camp when I was little so thought, "no...no." So I'm on the horse and the vicious little thing for about 2 minutes decides to trot off and smash me into the wall, completely temporarily crushing from my knee down and was it was totally embarrassing. You don't evoke a lot of sympathy from a tragic Shetland Pony accident. AOLiveMC1: CuteBlk9 has a question about the show's direction. Question: Are Hilda and Zelda ever going to let Sabrina live the luxiourious life they lived before she came? CRheaLive: No. We're trying to teach her to live in moderation. AOLiveMC1: Brookey61 wants to know who writes all those great scripts. Question: Your Hair is great!!! It's looks better now. Who's the writer for the show? I'm 13 and want to be a writer and the diaologe for the show is funny. CRheaLive: First of all, my hair thanks you. And there are 8 writers for the show. You can maybe start by writing a play. AOLiveMC1: Lephead2 has a thought-provoking question. Question: What are some things you would like to do that you haven't? CRheaLive: I would like to be on Letterman. I would like to play Sally Field's youngest daughter, because everyone tells me that I look like her. I would like to be onstage with Carol Burnett and Tracey Ullman. And I would like to star in a really great movie that I write, because I think I have pretty good chances casting wise. AOLiveMC1: CDurrett has a funny little remark. Question: Do you do your own magic, or do you have a standin? CRheaLive: Yeah, I do my own magic. Well, actually, most of the magic takes place in the hair and makeup room. AOLiveMC1: Crystal88 would like to say this to our guest. Question: I just wanted to let you know that my two daughters..ages 7,8..LOVE your show...and I as a mother would like to say THANK YOU for such a pleasant show..:) How is the show doing in the ratings? CRheaLive: Well, we've only been on for 2 weeks but we won our time slot both times. I'm glad your children like the show. AOLiveMC1: Kirkwh has a question about Caroline's endearing smile. Question: Where did you get your great smile from your mother's or your father's side of your family? CRheaLive: I have my mother's smile. Nice of you to say. :> AOLiveMC1: Well, we've reached that point where we only have enough time for one final question. TammiMod ends our show with this question. Question: I love the show!! Will you have a love interest this season? Maybe a mortal? Could be fun!! CRheaLive: Actually, my love interest right now is Martin Mull, who is mortal. But there's a bit of an age difference and that worries me because he's in his 40's and I'm 612. I am hoping they bring Johnny Depp on but who knows? But that would take REAL magic. ;> AOLiveMC1: Caroline, you've been SO incredibly entertaining and hilarious. Can't say how much we've enjoyed having you here on AOL. Any final remarks for your fans out there? CRheaLive: Thank you. It was a pleasure meeting all of your initials and numbers and send me good cybervibes to get my computer moving. And I'm in New York performing at Caroline's Comedy on November 20th to the 23rd. So make a special trip. Risk the crime! And thank you!
